Job Description:

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Electrician

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

APPROVAL DATE: April 2017

SUPERVISES: There are no direct reports with this position.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision the Maintenance Electrician performs a variety of electrical installations, maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as general facility and equipment maintenance duties. Employees in this job class specialize in electrical work, and ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained and in good repair. This job class requires knowledge of electrical, heating and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, general carpentry, and occupational safety Cal OSHA and OSHA) regulations; and the ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. *Responds to work orders related to electrical, construction, and architectural issues such as installing lighting and ballasts, installing or moving circuits, running conduits, installing circuit breakers, troubleshooting electrical problems, repairing damage, and replacing parts.

  2. *Responds promptly to customer service requests related to electrical and lighting operation and repairs. Identifies problems, explains solutions, and estimates time to resolve.

  3. *Performs routine facility inspections to identify possible trouble areas, and makes repairs and corrections as needed.

  4. *Tests security systems and personal address systems.

  5. *May perform basic heating and air conditioning system (HVAC) preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.

  6. *May perform a variety of general carpentry, electrical, and plumbing preventative maintenance, repairs, and new construction projects.

  7. *Purchases required supplies and materials to complete construction or electrical projects.

  8. *Completes and processes paperwork regarding repairs and estimates.

  9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; Trade school coursework in electrical and refrigeration,P.L.C.and H.V.A.C. preferred;

  • Three years facilities maintenance, construction and electrical experience; including working with all types of electrical circuits and voltages, and on HVAC equipment;

  • Skill to troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits;

  • Knowledge of the proper use of specialized departmental equipment including that used in the trades of electrical, HVAC, and general carpentry;

  • Skills in welding, brazing, cutting, fabrication machine shop, carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry and concrete preferred;

  • Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations;

  • Ability to read and understand construction, electrical, and equipment drawings, blueprints, and schematics;

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;

  • Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;

  • Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;

  • Effective customer service skills;

  • Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;

  • Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;

  • Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: Valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

  • Maneuvering around equipment

  • Standing and walking

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching

  • Climbing ladders

  • Lifting boxes or equipment up to 35 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in the office. Employees may be required to work in confined spaces and may also be exposed to toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment and depending on the weather conditions; wind, rain cold and heat. Frequent travel is required.
