General Summary

Direct the division within the VSP Sales Division to achieve company and sales goals. Manage, train, evaluate and motivate sales staff. Support division employees and directly sell VSP's products and services to VSP’s largest accounts by managing existing accounts and developing new prospects. Exercise and articulate in depth knowledge of the health care industry and VSP’s role.

Essential Functions

Contriubte to and support Sales Division objectives. Formulate and implement divisional strategic business plans to support corporate and local goals and objectives. Demonstrates leadership specific to largest accounts and prospects to retain and increase membership and identify new and ancillary product sales opportunities.

Cultivate and develop strong business relationships with clients and prospective clients’ executives.

Develop and sustain relationships with key concsultants throughout the division. Be recognized as a thought leader in the industry and with how VSP adds value.

Motivate and monitor performance of direct reports to ensure sales goals and corporate objectives are met. Provide timely and objective coaching and counseling, conduct performance reviews and recommend salary increases.

Maintain in depth working knowledge on existing and new products/services and other general information to ensure accurate information is provided. Educate and train the sales force to accomplish the Divisional Sales Plan.

Be an objective liaison between VSP and customers to ensure service levels and expectations are met with appropriate and effective solutions.

Lead with creative and innovative sales techniques to keep staff thinking about how to be as competitive as possible. Lead by utilizing and championing best practice techniques on effective time management. Adopt sales automation system for all prospecting and client relationship activities.

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience

Ten years direct outside sales experience, preferably in the employee benefits or Healthcare/Insurance industry.

Five years sales management experience with working with multisate sales teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Demonstrated track record in meeting sales/revenue goals with major account responsibility

In depth knowledge of underwriting, products, services and healthcare industry

Clean DMV record

Ability to travel up to 30% of the time

Ability to obtain appropriate state insurance license within six months of employment and meet all continuing education requirements

Clean credit history as reported by credit report

Preferred Skills

Preferred Candidate(s) will be located in Rancho Cordova, but consideration will be given to candidates located in the West Division geography.
