Position Summary:

The pharmacy technician specialist is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources as required to process medication refill requests while adhering to the departments protocol policies.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required

  • Related work experience and college level education may be considered in lieu of education requirement.

  • Current California Pharmacy Technician license required

  • Experience in retail pharmacy required

  • Required Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to be self-motivated and work within minimal supervision, yet able to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance

  • Ability to perform pharmacy calculations

  • Ability to operate fax machine, photocopier and voice mail system

  • Capable of using/learning to use an electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Demonstrate computer skills with clinical quality and financial reporting required, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Desktop Publishing software

  • Ability to work with and communicate to diverse work force in all levels of the organization

  • Must have strong ability to serve as a patient advocate through a demonstrated skill in and understanding

  • Able to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times

  • Strong communication skills

  • Required knowledge:

  • Familiar with electronic methods of communications (e.g. e-mails, computer messaging, pagers, etc)

  • Knowledge of e-prescribing capabilities and limitations

  • Knowledge of clinic and department policies and procedures

  • Familiar with Dignity Health Medical Foundation clinics, names and locations

  • Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to adapt easily to change

  • Must be able to work in a team environment that may change or fluctuate dependent on the activity or time frame

  • Ability to promote a role model of excellent customer service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years experience in retail pharmacy, medical/ insurance environment preferred

  • Knowledge of generic and trade drug names and pharmacy terminology preferred
